Future Tech Club

Welcome to our Cape Town Future Tech clubs network. The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is home to some of the South Africa Future Tech clubs formerly known as Mozilla clubs. The clubs were founded with Mozilla foundation, UN Women, and Peo Ya Phetogo (PYP) working with  Dr. Mmaki Jantjies at the University of the Western Cape who was the regional coordinator for South African based Mozilla and UN Women girls clubs.

The club is run by students, with this year the leaders consisting of 5 students with a major either in Information Systems or Computer Sciences. The leaders consist of Phathile Dhlamini, Liyakhanya Candy Tabata, Unathi Solomon, Katlego Thinane, and Ziyanda Dzanibe. To find out more about the leaders click on 'Meet the Team' on the taskbar.

This year the clubs will be run at Heathfield High School, situated in Heathfield catering to learners from many underprivileged communities, and Langa High School, situated east of the city center on the Cape Flats. We will be holding the sessions on a Friday afternoon at least once a month (more if possible and if requested), with learners in Grade 8 and 9. During these sessions, we will teach give them the basic digital require, and based on our experience the students will be encouraged to pursue a job one day in the ever-growing fields of Information Systems and Computer Sciences. It is the goal of us as the Future Tech Club Leaders to empower the youth at the schools with ICT skills, how to be safe when using the Internet or social media, leadership and team skills, and how to use the Web for the own betterment.

We will also hold events throughout the year, where we will invite the learners of both schools to come to the University of the Western Cape. During these events, they will be able to not only meet new people, but they will be able to exchange what they have learned during their sessions, and we as the Leaders will organize an activity for them to do. More information regarding the events will be given closer to the time and will be available on the Events page.
